What is the Difference between Testimonials and Case Studies?

Testimonials are absolutely crucial to any business, especially if you have zero time to create Case Studies. But what are they, how do you get them, and how do they differ from Case Studies? This article will answer all those burning questions!

What is a Case Study?

If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, the answer to this question won’t surprise you. A Case Study features a client that has seen success thanks to your business. It clearly summarizes the client’s problems or situation and describes the solution that resolved those issues. It also identifies the results that occurred since the solution’s implementation. Sales and marketing teams love Case Studies because they help them do their jobs more effectively.

In other words, the more high-quality Case Studies you have, the more likely you are to appeal to prospects and close deals!

What is a Testimonial?

A Case Study is a detailed Testimonial. A Testimonial is a record of a client expressing satisfaction with your company and your brand. It’s a high-level, informal, no-frills form of documented proof that your business has a happy customer. A successful Testimonial can be as simple as a quote from the client reading, “Company ABC really hit it out of the park for us. We would highly recommend this business!”

Testimonials are bare-bones and the easiest form of social proof to create, so every company should have this type of content.

How Do I Get Testimonials?

The best way to get Testimonials is simply to ask for them. Here’s an example of how to ask a client to provide a Testimonial:

“Would you mind giving us a short quote about your experience working with our company? We would love to share it on our website!”

If you have examples of previous Testimonials to share, offer to send them to the client; they can help the client more fully understand what you’re looking for in terms of a quote.

Always make it clear to clients how you intend to use their quotes, and get written permission to use their names, job titles, and headshots.

Instead of manually collecting quotes and permissions, you may want to establish a profile on a review site like G2 or bolster your company’s collection of Google reviews. You can then send your clients a link to where they can write their Testimonials.

Here’s an example of some of the Testimonials we had on our website in 2022:

Examples of client Testimonials for SuccessKit. Christopher Levy, CEO of BuyDRM, said "The Case Study SuccessKit created for us was elite." Don Mennig, CEO of Evolve IP, said "Julian and his team have done an excellent job for us. Definitely recommend working with them for Case Studies." Erin Wathen, Director of Branding and Events at Assure, said "I really appreciate how SuccessKit takes the reins and produces such great results, allowing us to focus on what we need to do to grow the business."
